Announcing Opening of Village Library!

Dear Residents of Sunset Cove,

Your Council is pleased to announce that the Resort Village of Sunset Cove’s Village Library is now open for business!

As previously noted, this library was established in dedication to Barry West in recognition of his 30 years of service as Sunset Cove’s Groundskeeper.

The library is located at the entrance to the pathway to the Gerry Argue Lookout – on the municipal reserve area in the middle of the community.

We have also registered the library with the “Little Free Library” organization and are waiting for the official “Charter plaque” to arrive to be installed on the library. The location of the library will eventually be mapped with all other free little libraries, around the world.

We encourage you to enjoy the library:
• Leave a book, take a book
• Love a book, keep a book
• Accepted materials – books, CDs and DVDs

Please do not leave over-sized or excess materials on the ground.

Regards,
Council – Resort Village of Sunset Cove

Fire Safety Reminder

Dear Residents of Sunset Cove,

With the Province declaring a state of emergency as a result of the uncontrolled fires in the Candle Lake area, Council consulted the regional Fire Chief on the status of fire bans in the Last Mountain Lake area. At this time, he is not recommending fire bans, under the conditions listed below, but is recommending a Fireworks ban.

Council advises residents that effective immediately, NO fireworks or any kind are to be set off. This ban will remain in effect until advised by the Fire Chief that it can be removed.

In addition, Council reminds residents that any open fires must comply with the requirements of the Fire Bylaw (Bylaw No 100/2021), found on the Resort Village’s website. A summary is as follows:
• All fires are to be contained within a fire pit structure (Section 4.6 of the Bylaw); no open bonfires/campfires are permitted (Section 4.2 of the Bylaw);
• Fire flames are not to exceed 24” in height and fire pits are not to exceed 36” in diameter;
• All fires are not to be left unattended;
• Residents are to have a water source in proximity to the fire to be used in the case of an emergency;
• All fires are to be thoroughly extinguished; and
• NO fires are permitted when wind speeds exceed 50km/hr, and should be avoided in all onshore wind conditions.

Residents found to be in contravention of the fireworks ban or any parts of the Fire Bylaw will be fined (Sections 4.5 and 5 of the Bylaw).

Residents are asked to use their ATVs, motor bikes, etc. responsibly and to avoid riding in grassed areas. Reports are that the widespread fires in the Candle Lake area were started by hot exhaust systems on an ATV in a grassy area.

Note that, while vegetation is looking green and lush with spring growth, rain gauges in the Resort Village have measured less than 1 inch of precipitation in the month of May. Just because Regina or other areas have had lots of rain does not necessarily mean that the Resort Village has had the same amount.

Council appreciates your cooperation in keeping our community safe.

Regards,
Council – Resort Village of Sunset Cove

Groundskeeper Update

Dear Residents of Sunset Cove,

As the summer beach season quickly approaches, Council wanted to update you on the search for a Groundskeeper.

As was communicated in the Spring 2025 Newsletter, the Resort Village is searching for a new Groundskeeper. Despite advertising in multiple locations and approaching several individuals directly, to date, Council continues to search for a new Groundskeeper.

As Council continues to search for a staff Groundskeeper, we ask for the assistance of all residents in helping to maintain our community. Please do your part by:
• Picking up garbage found on the road allowance and/or municipal reserve areas and disposing of it in the garbage bins;
• Keeping the area around the garbage bins and recycle bin tidy; and
• Maintaining the road allowance bordering your property by mowing grassed areas.

Council appreciates your patience and assistance in this matter and will provide status updates when available.

If you know of anyone who may be interested in this casual employment opportunity, please ask them to contact Mayor Shawna Argue at s.argue.rvsunsetcove@gmail.com.

Regards,
Council – Resort Village of Sunset Cove
